Giving Back: Chris Tiu celebrates birthday with the kids of White Cross Children's Home

In celebration of Chris Tiu’s 30th Birthday, he together with his lovely wife had planned an outreach program for kids at an orphanage. Ever since I became a fan of Chris, I know that his top priority is to help others out. It is always his thing to lend a hand and reach out to the needy. Just like his love and “calling” for sports, Chris considers helping children another big responsibility in life. Tagging us along, his ever loyal fans, the tiunatics prepared a lot of activities for the young ones. We actually do this every year and this is our 7th time!!

Friday, 17th of July 2015 the D day! We have dedicated this holiday morning for the kids residing at White Cross Children’s Home at San Juan. We brought them not only foods and gifts but love and care we’ll make them feel that moment on.

Volunteers have agreed to gather donations in form of a ‘registration fee’ of 200php in exchange of a raffle coupon for a chance to win any Chris Tiu item. We garnered a total of 8,000php, not bad huh!

Activity starts at 9am. The door opened with 55 kids’ (ages 2-14) went wild as if they haven’t seen playmates in a long time. The expression on their faces shows how excited were they to play with us. Ofcourse. kids will be kids, screams of enjoyment filled the place. Hey! It’s not every day that they get to see their “idol” In real life and spend an entire morning with him!

The tiunatics hosted the program with fun games such as trip to Jerusalem, longest line, storytelling and various entertainments. Giving back, we also had bunch of surprises, goodies and toys in store that they’d surely liked.

After the tiring games and run around, finally, eating time!!

Homemade packed foods, chopseuy and boneless chicken rice meal were served to each kid. Alongside are bananas and bottled mineral water sponsored by Charis Foundation. Healthy!! isn’t? :))

While they were eating, I felt so contented seeing these youngsters smiling. Most of them got to finish their food fast!!

Then kiddos had photo op with the group of ates and kuyas who made this event successful.

Just like in a basketball game, buzzer beats at the last two-minute mark…when we all know that it’s about time to bid goodbyes. Never would have thought that the hours we spent there will give me this “sepanx” feeling. Might be over reacting but that’s really what I felt.

It is not hard to proffer anything we can do to make others happy as long as you have this effort and ways to actively engage in uplifting spirits most especially to younger generations.

As Chris once said, “We can’t keep waiting for others to make a change in this country; we have to start within ourselves. I always have it at the back of my head that although I have my own career and goals in life, I should never forget that I have a personal responsibility to give back and help those in need”.

I personally enjoyed the event- it gives me a sense of fulfillment. I am able to share resources and bring joy to people in my own little means.

Right after our fruitful event, we headed to Bonchon for an awesome birthday treat. This was the fans time to meet and mingle with Chris, in flesh! HAHA. Kidding aside, I have to commend Bonchon for the superb meal and service!! Thanks Bonchon!!

And so, as promised, the raffle- yehey! All of the tiunatics won!! Glad that Chris came prepared!!

For the Nth time, Happy happy Birthday to an athlete who has loads of talent and intelligence, to the guy who pursues excellence, to an idol who keeps inspiring people, to an ambassador who has a big heart, to an overall achiever!! AND to the busiest person i know yet has time for everything...Chris Tiu!! May God give you all of what your heart desires. Thank you for everything. You know that I’m always here, ups and downs; win or lose. I got your back, Tiuperman!! Love, Cie:)

Tampopo: The new Ramen-Katsu Craze

Singapore-based Tampopo Restaurant finally agreed to branch out to Manila! Tampopo's known as the Japanese restaurant serving ramen, tonkatsu, Sushi and Kurobuta dishes which I think was named after the Dandelion flower, seen on their logo.

Mr Takagi “Father of Tonkatsu” the man who turned simple foods to unusual ones.

Lucky to try out the said resto located at Promenade Greenhills and to have been invited by one of the franchise owners. =)

Well, if you know Yabu, I would strongly recommend Tampopo!! Aside from having a better taste of tonkatsu which uses only high-quality breadcrumbs from Hokkaido and well recognized for its juiciness, flavour and ternderness... There's their R-A-M-E-N, I should say, is award winning!!

Let me share with you my Tampopo experience...

Even though it hasn’t fully opened, Tampopo has already attracted diners by their luminous and natively-sophisticated ambiance using a "bamboo themed" wallings and handrails. Upon entering, staff happily welcomes guests with a Japanese greetings.

You will surely not be intimidated of the place since it’s for Casual dining.

The menu is quite extensive so we found it hard to decide what to order since everything seemed uniquely yummy.

So, what do we got? :)

Mini Pork Rice 150php
Don't under estimate this Mini Pork Rice, it might be mini on looks but deliciously heavy on the stomach

Deluxe Tampopo Black Pig Shabu Ramen 420php
Served with tampopo, corns, bamboo shoots, slices of black pig and lettuce. Topped with lots of chilli powder and sliced onions spring. Since I am no fan of chilli, I requested to lessen it..hehe. Though, the spiciness lessens it's still tasty and flavourful. The ramen was well cooked. And what I really enjoyed was the taste of the offbeat egg in it. I asked the staff what kind of egg was it, then he told me that it was a "Golden Egg"

The Tamago (Japanese half boiled egg) was excellent. A firm and nice consistent dark brown colour on the outside. And soft inner runny egg yolk. I swear, I super liked it! HAHA.

Oh, by the way...you can add Tamago by ordering just the egg itself (separately served). If you too liked it just what I did.

Hakodate Original Ramen 370php
A must try for soup lovers! In my opinion is milk-savory and enticing. Perfect for cold weather and a good alternative if you're not in the mood for black pig shabu ramen

Premium Loin Katsu Set  390php
When the Premium Loin Katsu set arrived, might be ordinary on looks and won'trealize any difference unless you take a bite! Crisp outer covering that melts in your tongue while eating, tender pork fillet, with just the right amount of marbling to make it tasty without being fatty and oily.

As for the deserts, Red Mango's present! From yogurt, waffles to healthy fruits and parfait green tea.

Overall, I enjoyed our Tampopo experience, especially their scrumptious ramen and succulent tonkatsu with unique Japanese dishes on sides.

Will be back to try the wide-ranging array of Katsu! It definitely has one of the best vibes among Japanese restaurants in the Metro.
So, great job to the "masterminds" of bringing Tampopo in Manila. More branches and ventures to come!!

The ever hands-on boss of the day, Chris Tiu

Waaaaay to go Chris and co! =)
